Ear Wax Removal for Manchester City Centre
Microsuction 10 minutes south of Piccadilly. Same-day slots most days. ENT-grade equipment.
Manchester city centre's nearest microsuction clinic.
Manchester City Centre patients (M1, M2, M3 postcodes plus Northern Quarter and Castlefield) come to Trafford Clinic when ear wax has built up and the NHS no longer offers a quick route. We're about 2.5 miles south-west — 10 minutes by car via the A56 / Chester Road with free patient parking, or a 15-minute Metrolink hop on the Altrincham line to Old Trafford station then a 5-minute walk. The clinic operates from Empire Pharmacy (GPhC premises 1123966), led by independent prescriber Haroon Iqbal. Microsuction is a 20-minute procedure done under a binocular microscope using low-pressure suction; no water near the eardrum and we'll show you the wax on the camera before and after.
Ear wax removal for Manchester city centre patients
The closest ENT-grade microsuction clinic to Manchester city centre is Trafford Clinic in Old Trafford — a 15-minute Metrolink hop on the Altrincham line. We operate from Empire Pharmacy, 122 Seymour Grove (GPhC premises 1123966), with Haroon Mohammad Iqbal MPharm, IP (GPhC reg. 2051093) leading the service. Same-day or next-day appointments most days, 20 minutes both ears, hearing restored on the spot.
Why microsuction
We use a binocular operating microscope and a Tympahealth suction unit — the same equipment ENT outpatient departments use — and work under direct vision throughout. Microsuction is dry, low-pressure (typically 80–120 mmHg), and reversible. Unlike traditional irrigation ("syringing") it carries no risk of pushing wax against the tympanic membrane or introducing contaminated water. The British Society of Audiology, NICE CKS and ENT UK all endorse microsuction as the preferred clinic-based method.
Why city-centre patients come to us rather than the NHS
NHS England decommissioned routine ear-wax removal from primary care in 2019. Greater Manchester audiology waits for wax are typically 12–24 months — not viable for working professionals or hearing-aid users with daily symptoms. Most of our city-centre patients book in the morning and arrive for an early-afternoon slot. We provide a printed clinic record the same visit — useful for your GP or audiologist file.
What to expect, plus olive-oil prep
Full otoscopic exam first to confirm wax and rule out infection, perforation or foreign body. If we find anything outside our scope (e.g. middle-ear infection) we refer to ENT promptly. For impacted wax, 3–5 nights of olive oil drops beforehand significantly improves first-pass clearance. After the procedure: keep the canals dry for 24 hours. Hearing-aid users — bring your aids and we'll check fit at the same visit.
Related services and pages
If your hearing changes feel asymmetric or accompanied by tinnitus, vertigo or sudden loss, microsuction may not be the right starting point — we'll refer to ENT and can run a supportive blood panel (FBC, ferritin, B12, TSH) via our city centre blood tests page. Peer microsuction pages in the cluster: Manchester hub, Salford Quays, Salford and Old Trafford. Brand context lives at traffordclinic.co.uk/ear-health.
