Ear Wax Removal for Salford
Microsuction for Salford, 12 minutes south of Salford Crescent. ENT-grade. Same-day.
Salford's nearest microsuction clinic.
Salford residents come to Trafford Clinic on Seymour Grove because most Salford GP surgeries no longer offer ear wax removal on the NHS and audiology chains can have month-long waits. We're 2 miles south via the A5063 and the A5067 — typically 8 minutes from Salford Crescent or the Royal Hospital area, with free patient parking. The clinic operates from Empire Pharmacy (GPhC premises 1123966), led by independent prescriber Haroon Iqbal. Microsuction is a 20-minute procedure done under a binocular microscope with low-pressure suction. We see students from the University of Salford regularly, hearing-aid users from the Crescent and Pendleton, and tinnitus referrals from local GPs — same-day slots usually available.
Ear wax removal for Salford residents
For Salford residents needing professional microsuction, Trafford Clinic is the nearest ENT-grade clinic — about 10–15 minutes south via the A56 or M602. We operate from Empire Pharmacy, 122 Seymour Grove, Old Trafford (GPhC premises 1123966), led by Haroon Mohammad Iqbal MPharm, IP (GPhC reg. 2051093). Same-day or next-day appointments most days, 20 minutes both ears, hearing restored on the spot.
The procedure and equipment
We use a binocular operating microscope and a Tympahealth suction unit — the same equipment ENT outpatient departments use — with every procedure performed under direct vision. Every appointment starts with a full otoscopic exam of both ears (and the tympanic membranes) to confirm wax and rule out infection, perforation or foreign body. We then proceed with low-pressure microsuction (typically 80–120 mmHg). Microsuction is endorsed by NICE CKS, ENT UK and the British Society of Audiology as the preferred clinic-based method — dry, low-pressure, controlled, with none of the irrigation risks (perforation, otitis externa from contaminated water).
Why Salford patients come to us
NHS England decommissioned ear-wax removal from primary care in 2019. Greater Manchester audiology waits for wax are typically 12–24 months, which isn't viable for hearing-aid users with daily symptoms or for working adults whose hearing is affecting their job. Salford has a substantial hearing-aid-wearing population through Salford Royal audiology services — many of those patients book regular maintenance with us (3- to 6-monthly) to keep their fitted aids working properly.
Olive oil drops, contraindications, aftercare
For impacted wax we recommend 3–5 nights of olive oil drops beforehand to soften it: 2–3 drops per ear, lie on the unaffected side for 5–10 minutes, no cotton buds. Microsuction isn't appropriate over an active middle-ear infection, a suspected perforation without ENT input, or within 6 weeks of ear surgery — we'll refer to ENT if anything outside our scope shows up. Aftercare is minimal: keep canals dry for 24 hours.
